Professional Piano Movers With Years of Experience

A piano is not just another piece of furniture. It is heavy, awkward, expensive, often irreplaceable, and built with thousands of moving parts that all need to stay in tune. Moving one without the right crew and the right equipment is how pianos get damaged, floors get gouged, and movers get hurt. Mic’s Moving has been the trusted piano moving company in Washington DC since 2013, and we have moved hundreds of uprights, baby grands, and full grand pianos across the DMV. Whether your piano is going across the living room, across the city, or across the country, we have the experience to do it right.

Our piano movers train specifically on the techniques that keep pianos safe in transit, including how to wrap them, how to lift them, how to navigate stairs, and how to position them in the truck so they arrive at the new home in the same condition they left the old one. You get a crew that takes the job seriously, the gear that makes it possible, and the insurance coverage that protects what matters.

Pianos We Move

We move every type of piano you are likely to own. Some of the most common:

Upright Pianos

Standard upright pianos, console pianos, studio pianos, and spinet pianos. Even though uprights are smaller than grands, they are still heavy and need proper equipment to move safely. We bring the right dollies, straps, and crew size for every upright job.

Baby Grand Pianos

Baby grands need to be partially disassembled before moving. We remove the legs, the lyre, and the pedals, wrap the body in heavy padding, and load the piano onto a piano board for transport. At the new home, we reassemble everything and position the piano exactly where you want it.

Grand Pianos

Full grand pianos are bigger, heavier, and more delicate than baby grands. Our crew has the experience and equipment to handle them with the extra care they require, including extra movers, larger piano boards, and careful planning for tight doorways or staircases.

Player Pianos and Antique Pianos

Older pianos and player pianos often have additional weight from the mechanisms inside, and they may need extra padding for delicate cabinetry. We handle these jobs with the patience and care they deserve.

Digital Pianos and Keyboards

Lighter than acoustic pianos but still worth careful handling, especially for high-end digital pianos with weighted keys. We treat these like any other valuable instrument.

Organs

Electronic organs, pump organs, and similar instruments often share many of the same challenges as pianos. We have moved plenty of them.

What Comes Standard With Every Piano Move

Piano moves are not standard furniture moves, and we treat them differently from the first phone call. Here is what comes standard with every piano move:

Trained Piano Movers

Our piano crew is staffed with experienced movers who have specifically trained on piano work. We do not send a random crew to move your piano.

Piano Boards and Heavy-Duty Equipment

Piano boards, four-wheel dollies, lifting straps, and stair-climbing equipment designed for the weight and shape of pianos.

Padding, Blanket Wrapping, and Stretch Wrap

Every piano gets thoroughly padded and wrapped before it leaves the home. Keys, pedals, and cabinetry all get protected.

Disassembly and Reassembly

Grand and baby grand pianos get their legs, lyre, and pedals carefully removed before transport and reassembled at the new location. You never touch a single bolt.

Floor and Doorway Protection

Pianos can scratch hardwood floors and bang up doorframes if the crew is not careful. We use floor runners, door jamb protectors, and extra padding at both locations.

Full Insurance Coverage

Every piano move is fully insured. Certificate of Insurance documents are available for buildings that require them before move day.

Where We Move Pianos

We move pianos all over Washington DC, Maryland, Northern Virginia, and beyond. Some of the most common situations we handle:

Local Piano Moves

Moving across town, into a new home, or to a different room of the same house. Most local piano moves are completed in a few hours.

Long Distance Piano Moves

Relocating to another state or across the country? We can move your piano as part of a full long distance move, or as a standalone piano-only job. The same crew that loads the piano at your old home is the crew that unloads it at the new one.

Piano Moves Within a Home

Moving a piano from the living room to the basement, up to a second floor, or out onto a porch. We have the equipment and experience to navigate stairs, tight turns, and tricky spaces.

Schools, Churches, and Venues

We move pianos for schools, churches, music studios, and event venues across the DMV. Tight schedules and careful handling are both part of the job.

Storage and Climate-Controlled Holding

If you need to store your piano for a few weeks or a few years, our climate-controlled storage facility in North Bethesda is the right environment to protect the wood, the strings, and the action.

A Few Things to Know Before Your Piano Move

Pianos are sensitive to temperature, humidity, and rough handling, but a properly executed move will not damage a healthy instrument. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Tuning After the Move

Pianos typically need to be retuned after any move, even a short one. The vibrations from transport and the change in environment shift the strings slightly. We recommend waiting two to four weeks after the move before scheduling a tuning so the piano can adjust to its new climate.

New Location Climate

Try to place your piano away from direct sunlight, heating vents, air conditioners, and exterior walls. Stable temperature and humidity will keep your instrument in good condition between tunings.

Stairs and Tight Spaces

If you have stairs, narrow doorways, or tight turns at either location, let us know during the quote process. Photos help. We can plan accordingly and bring the right equipment.

Insurance and High-Value Pianos

If your piano is unusually valuable, let us know during the quote process. We can discuss additional insurance options and a more careful approach for high-value instruments.

How Our Piano Moving Process Works

We have refined our piano moving process over hundreds of jobs. Here is what to expect:

Step 1: Free Quote

Call (301) 257-0111 or fill out our online form. Tell us what type of piano you have, where it is going, and any stairs or tight spaces at either location. Send a photo if you can. We reply within 24 hours with a clear price.

Step 2: Site Walk and Planning

For larger pianos or trickier locations, we may walk the pickup and delivery sites in advance to plan the route, identify any challenges, and make sure we bring the right equipment.

Step 3: Move Day

Our piano crew arrives on time with piano boards, dollies, straps, and padding. We carefully disassemble grand pianos as needed, wrap the piano thoroughly, and load it onto the truck.

Step 4: Delivery and Setup

We transport the piano to the new location, unload carefully, reassemble any removed parts, and position the piano exactly where you want it. We recommend allowing the piano to acclimate for a few weeks before tuning.
